We start with a bold red wine (such as Garnacha), then add a splash of our hand-crafted lavender syrup, along with warm spices — cinnamon sticks, star anise, cloves — and slices of fresh oranges. The wine will absorb the floral notes of lavender, the citrus from the oranges, and the aromatic depth from the spices. Ideal for chilly evenings, holiday gatherings, or anyone who wants a sophisticated twist on the classic mulled wine.
What you need:
- 1-750ml Bottle of Grenache (we recommend Scout & Cellar 2022 Nest Grenache)
- 5 Blood Oranges or Large Navel oranges
- ¼ cup-Lavender Cocktail Syrup
- 6-Cinnamon Sticks
- 4-Star Anise
- 4-Whole Cloves
- Whole Fresh Cranberries-optional garnish
- In a large pot or crockpot, add the juice of 2 oranges, lavender syrup, and wine. Add cinnamon sticks. Use tea strainers to add star anise and cloves to the pot. Cut 3 oranges in half and slice, adding to the pot.
- Crockpot: Cook on low for 60 minutes before switching to the "warm" setting. Stovetop: Heat the pot over medium-high heat until the wine begins to simmer. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let simmer for at least thirty minutes or up to 2 hours.
- When done, remove cloves and star anise. Serve with an orange slice, a cinnamon stick, and fresh cranberries, if desired.
